International Yoga Day 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over International Yoga Day 2025 celebrations in Visakhapatnam, emphasizing yoga’s role in global wellness and India’s cultural diplomacy.

June 21, 2025 | The sun rose over Visakhapatnam’s Beach Road as Prime Minister Narendra Modi led thousands in synchronized yoga postures to mark the 11th International Yoga Day, transforming Andhra Pradesh’s coastline into a sprawling mat of wellness enthusiasts. Against the backdrop of the Bay of Bengal, the Prime Minister demonstrated the Surya Namaskar sequence alongside 15,000 participants, including diplomats from 54 nations, while naval helicopters showered flower petals in a dramatic display of India’s soft power.

This year’s theme, “Yoga for Global Harmony,” took on special significance as Modi announced the Global Yoga Certification Program, a new initiative to standardize teaching methodologies worldwide. The Prime Minister’s 35-minute address highlighted yoga’s growing acceptance in Western medicine, citing recent WHO recommendations for incorporating yoga into treatment plans for chronic stress and hypertension.
